Coir is the fibrous material found between the hard, internal shell and the outer coat of a coconut. Other uses of brown coir (made from ripe coconut) are in upholstery padding, sacking and horticulture. Ragi (கேழ்வரகு)

Finger millet is especially valuable as it contains the amino acid methionine, which is lacking in the diets of hundreds of millions of the poor who live on starchy staples such as cassavaplantain, polished rice, or maize meal. Finger millet can be ground and cooked into cakes, puddings or porridge.

Saamai (சாமை)

Millets are gluten free, rich in fiber, proteins, minerals and vitamins. kuthiraivali rice is 6 times more nutritious than wheat. Rich in Protein, fiber, minerals and iron compared to all other grains. Good for Heart Related problems, Anemic, Mensural Disorder and Diabetics.

 

Pearl Milet (கம்பு)

Pearl millet is well adapted to growing areas characterized by drought, low soil fertility, and high temperature. It performs well in soils with high salinity or low pH. Because of its tolerance to difficult growing conditions, it can be grown in areas where other cereal crops, such as maize or wheat, would not survive. Pearl millet is a summer annual crop well-suited for double cropping and rotations.

 

Solam (சோளம்)

Sorghum has been, for centuries, one of the most important staple foods for millions of poor rural people in the semiarid tropics of Asia and Africa. For some impoverished regions of the world, sorghum remains a principal source of energy, protein, vitamins and minerals. Sorghum grows in harsh environments where other crops do not grow well, just like other staple foods, such as cassava, that are common in impoverished regions of the world. It is usually grown without application of any fertilizers or other inputs by a multitude of small-holder farmers in many countries.
